Adelaide - the area
Adelaide is the capital of the state of South Australia with a population of over 1.1 million people. The city was founded in 1836, is the fifth largest city in Australia and the only capital not founded by convicts.

Adelaide is situated between the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Gulf St. Vincent and is divided through the middle by the River Torrens. The city centre is planned as a grid system which is surrounded by green land thus earning it the name of city in a park. There is plenty going on in Adelaide with a range of festivals, great selection of modern shopping malls, the wildlife and the wineries.

The cost of housing in Adelaide is some of the lowest in Australia and whether you prefer rural or coastal there is something here that is sure to please. The Adelaide Hills provide tranquil rural settings or down to cosmopolitan Glenelg and Brighton areas along the coast where life has a faster pace.

Both Healthcare and Schooling have an exceptional reputation which appeals to the many families that make Adelaide their home. See the relevant pages for more information on these.
