When you are making your final one way flight to Adelaide once your visa has come through it is worth checking with the airlines if extra luggage allowance is available. Some of the airlines will double the standard quota providing you are traveling on the correct migration visa which is a great help in the first few weeks whilst waiting for your container to arrive. Flights to Adelaide via the USA often operate a piece system for luggage so again it is worth checking what your limits would be.

One of the down side to long haul flights is the long check in time at the airports. Airport lounges are a great investment and for a small fee can provide you with a comfy quiet place to wait for your flight with snacks and drinks, magazines and a TV. Many of the larger lounges are now child friendly too with family sections.

Many of the airlines will also let you have a free stopover en route which can be a great way to add in a few extra days along the way to relax a little before starting your new life down under. We took advantage of this and stopped in Singapore. We found those few days were just what we needed to get over the stresses of the move and relax a little before we hit the ground running once we arrived in Adelaide!

You are also able to purchase migration travel insurance or one way travel Insurance to protect your and your family during your journey over as well as your belongings. Some of the companies offer insurance for up to 2 weeks after arriving so it is worth shopping around and checking the fine print.
